You can run and close programs installed on the local computer or scripts such as batch files automatically whenever the IGSS configuration starts or stops, for example starting 3rd party programs, initiating other procedures or running entire batch processes.
Shortcuts to the programs or batch files that are to be started or stopped must first created in Windows and then placed in specially created sub-folders in the IGSS configuration, depending on the results you want.
The Startup folder
Shortcuts placed in this folder will be run whenever the IGSS configuration is started, either from the IGSS Master, the IGSS Starter or from another program, for example batch-programs or through the command line. This typically opens programs, executes script files (.bat/.exe or .cmd files) or starts services on the local machine.
When the IGSS configuration is closed, all running programs or services with shortcuts placed in this folder will be closed and/or stopped if IGSS has opened them.
Note
IGSS must be run with sufficient rights on the local machine to execute the tasks specified in the shortcuts or script files.
Start a program when IGSS Starts
If you want to start a program when IGSS starts:
- In the IGSS configuration, create a subfolder with the name Startup.
- In the Startup folder, copy or create a shortcut to the program you want to start.
The Shutdown folder
Shortcuts placed in this folder will be run whenever the IGSS configuration is stopped, either from the IGSS Master, the IGSS Starter or from another program, for example batch-programs or through the command line.
The IGSS shut down procedure will wait for 2 minutes for each shortcut before proceeding to activate the next shortcut in the Shutdown folder. This means if the shortcut opens a program, executes a script file or starts/stops a service, the IGSS configuration shutdown procedure will appear to be non-responsive.
Start a program when IGSS closes
If you want to close a program when IGSS closes:
- In the IGSS configuration, create a subfolder with the name Shutdown.
- In the Shutdown folder, copy or create a shortcut to the program you want to close.
Note
To create a windows shortcut, right-click in the right pane of the Startup folder, select New > Shortcut and browse to the program.
You can also open the Windows Explorer navigate to the program or .bat or.exe file you want to create a shortcut for, right-click the program and select Create shortcut. You must then move the shortcut to the Startup or Shutdown folder in the IGSS configuration, depending on if you want the program to be started or shutdown.
Overview of started windows programs
An overview of the status of all IGSS applications and started windows programs can be seen on the Detailed Status tab in the IGSS Master > Runtime and Diagnostics tab> Detailed Status button.
The program is listed in the User Applications section with its shortcut name and a .lnk suffix but you can define a custom name for the windows program in the Comment field on the Shortcut tab in the Properties form of the shortcut.
Start/Close User applications
You can launch closed IGSS applications and/or windows programs from the Detailed Status tab by selecting the application in the User Applications section and clicking the Launch button in the bottom of the Detailed Status tab.
Likewise, you can also close running IGSS applications and windows programs from the Detailed Status tab by selecting the application and clicking the Kill button.
In both cases, you can right-click the user application and then select Launch / Kill to respectively start or close the user application.
Updates only
This new feature is only available for IGSS 12 after you have updated your IGSS installation.
