The alarm log can typically contain a large amount of records and when the number of alarm log records exceeds the limit defined for the alarm log, only the most recent records will be displayed and the user will be prompted to create and utilize an alarm log filter to display additional log records.
This is done to avoid a potential performance decrease of the Active Alarm form when displaying large amounts of alarm log records.
Max. number of alarm log records and reporting overruns
You can determine how many alarm log records will be displayed in the Alarm log before the user is required to create alarm log filters to display more records. The alarm log limit is defined in the System Configuration form > Alarm tab > Max. alarm log entries field.
You can also determine when a user will be informed that the alarm log limit has been exceeded in the Report overruns field:
- When filter node is selected: When a filter node is selected in the Alarm Log in the Active Alarm form and the alarm log contains more records than defined in the Max. alarm log entries field, a user dialog will be displayed prompting the user to create alarm log filters in order to display more alarm log entries. The latest alarm log entries will be displayed in the Alarm Log pane first. This is the default setting for reporting Alarm Log record overruns.
- When list scrolls to last line: The latest alarm log entries will be displayed in the Alarm Log pane first. When the user scrolls past the last record in the Alarm Log pane, a user dialog will be displayed prompting the user to create alarm log filters in order to display more alarm log entries.
- Never: The user dialog prompting for alarm log filters will never be displayed.
The new report overrun field is only available for IGSS 12 after you have updated your IGSS installation.
