Definition Ui Improvements in v.16

New Toolbar Icons

An icon’s primary goal is to communicate a concept quickly, so one of the UI elements that has undergone change is the Definition toolbar icons. The icons have been modernized with the use of grey color scheme and to have a more simplistic look so they are:

Easy to Read: The most important element of an icon design is readability or clarity. In an instant, anyone looking at the icon should know what it is and what it means or represents.

Simple: Icons are small in size, too much “design” or detail can make them complex cognitively when audiences try to understand them quickly. Overcomplicating icons makes them unclear and user will avoid clicking on them. So, when creating an icon, be simple by using simple colors, simple shapes and creative ideas.

Recognizable: Icons must be both instantly understandable an recognizable within and throughout the context/system they are in. Furthermore they also need to be recognizable to icons from other similar systems, in order for new users that make the jump to adapt and quickly understand the new system.

Balanced:  To be visually pleasing, the icons must include an amount of visual elements and white space (empty area around the visual elements). If a design does not have empty space—it will not have enough visual impact.

Consistent: When it comes to icons that are part of a system the overall consistency is essential. Stick to the same style decisions for each icon. The line thickness, the distance between the elements, the angles and the final touches should be consistent throughout.
