Providing access to graphs

You can provide operator access to pre-defined stand-alone graphs that have their own window and are not embedded in a diagram in the following ways:

Name to Menu / Description to menu option

The most typical way of providing access to a graph is to include its name in the Graph menu.

To include the graph in the Graph menu, select the Name to Menu and/or Description to menu check box in the Graph Properties form's Window tab when defining a new graph or editing the properties of an existing one.

Only graphs that are created in the currently active area are displayed in the menu.

Descriptor / Graph symbol

You can create a graph symbol in the diagram and connect it to the graph. The window graph is considered an IGSS object which you therefore can connect a descriptor to.

How to create and insert a graph symbol in a diagram:

1. Right-click on the location, where you want the graph symbol, and select New > Graphs to open the Object Browser. Alternatively, in the Objects menu click Graphs.

2. In the Object Browser window’s left pane, click the + of the relevant project, and in its Graph folder select an already created graph. The graph symbol and name is now inserted.

A command button is also a type of descriptor called a Windows Control and you can use a command button to open the graph.

  1. Right-click on the location, where you want the button. Select New > Standard Descriptor > Button to open Object Properties. Alternatively, in the Objects menu select Create > By Standard Descriptors > Button. OBS! Do not select the Command Button for this purpose.
  2. In the Object Properties form, define the properties of the button. Text to be displayed is entered in the Attributes of Button > Miscellaneous. Alternatively select the button and click F2 on the keyboard to change the button text directly.
  3. The graph name is automatically displayed over the button. If you don’t want to show that, deselect the Name box in the Label group of the Display tab.

If you have a number of graphs, you can create a "button bar" referencing the graphs.

A button bar is a small diagram which only contains button controls, referencing various IGSS objects such as diagrams or graphs and is placed in a location in the Supervise module which is always accessible. Use the Diagram menu to create a special diagram (button bar) for button controls.

Embedded graphs

Embedded graphs are already part of a process diagram, and are therefore readily available to the operator in the Supervise module.

Operator graphs

Apart from the pre-defined window graph created in the Definition module, operators can also create graphs on-the-fly during supervision and save the operator graphs on their local pc for use later.

Operators do not have the option to connect saved Operator graphs to descriptors and have to open any saved Operator graphs through the Graph menu in the Supervise module.

Operator graphs cannot be created in the Definition module and their contents cannot be edited through the Definition module either.

For more information on Operator graphs, see the online help for the Supervise module.
