Copy and paste values in the Property Table View form

You can copy a selection of properties (cells) from the Property Table View form and paste them into a 3rd party program, for example Microsoft Excel, to mass-edit multiple properties. You can then copy the updates from the 3rd party program into the Property Table View form again, mass-updating the properties directly.

The Copy-Paste function copies a selection of cells to the clipboard and from the clipboard again when pasting.

You can select the column headers of the right pane of the form, but they will not be included in the clipboard contents unless you select the special Copy with headers option. The filter row contents will also not be included in the clipboard contents.

Pasting content into the Property Table View form

The paste function inserts the contents of the clipboard in the form, using the selected cell as the first position. The paste direction is downwards an to the right, inserting clipboard contents in the

You can only paste the same number or less of rows and columns from the clipboard as you have selected in the Property Table View form. Thus you can paste fewer rows and/or columns into the Property Table View form, but not more. If you have selected more columns or more rows than the table in the form contains, the paste function will fail.

You must select an anchor cell in the right pane of the Property Table View form when pasting the content of the clipboard. The anchor cell will function as the starting point of the paste function and the paste function will insert the contents of the clipboard from the anchor cell.

If you select the column headers in the table when pasting, a cell in the filter row will be selected by IGSS as the anchor cell. If you paste using the filter row cell as the anchor cell, a mismatch will occur because the paste function will try to insert content in to the filter cell, which is not possible.

Be careful when pasting content into the Property Table Viewform. It is easy to inadvertently insert incorrect content. Since the Property Table View form updates directly when the cells are exited, object and descriptor property values will be updated nearly automatically. If the paste function inserts many changes, then the undo buffer will most often be overfilled and you will not be able step your way through a series of undo functions to reinstate the property values in the case of an error.

Create a backup of the configuration prior to pasting or mass-updating property values in the Property Table View form. Another suggestion is to treat the mass-updating or pasting of content into the Property Table View form as one work flow and not do mix this with other work being done in the Definition module.
