Example: Creating additional Protect objects

If you need to differentiate the user rights on objects of the same type, you will need additional Protect objects.

Here is an example where the operators must have different rights on temperature meters and flow meters, respectively.

Each protect object has been created based on the PROTECT digital object template but is assigned different security level permissions and is applied to different IGSS process objects.

To define additional Protect objects, do the following:

New protect objects must be based on the PROTECT digital object template. Do not copy this object template. Only the original digital object template will work.

1. In the Objects menu, select New Unreferenced.

• Typically, Protect objects are not visible. However, if you need to show the state of the object, it is possible.

2. In the Object Browser, do the following:

• Click the + sign beside Global.
• Click the + sign beside Digital.
• Find and select the PROTECT digital object template.
• In the Create new object section, type the name of the Protect object, for example, Protect_Temperature in the Name field.

1. Click Create.

• The object properties dialog box for the Protect object appears.

2. Click OK to accept the default settings for the object.

• The new Protect object can now be used to protect other objects from unauthorized use.

3. Repeat steps 1 – 4 for the number of additional Protect objects required.
