New Graph functionality pt. 1

News from IGSS Development

The new graph feature introduced in IGSS12 has been augmented with several new features which improve user overview and enables users to better create, adjust and utilize their graphs. Some of these features are from previous versions of IGSS which have been reinstated.

Send current graph as email

In the previous versions of IGSS, it was possible to send screenshot of the current graph as an attachment to an email message from the Supervise module in IGSS. During development of IGSS 12, this feature was not implemented but has now been reinstated in the current version of IGSS.


To send a graph as an email attachment, click the Email button on the graph toolbar or right-click the graph and select Email.

Define Y-axis limits from Y-axis menu

The Y-axis menu contains new options for defining the limits of the selected Y-axis.


The limits correspond to the three Y-axis settings on the Advanced Sub-tab of the Signals tab in the Graph Properties form:

  • Automatic: The graph calculates the Y-axis maximum and minimum values based on the object data being displayed.
  • Limits from Object: The maximum and minimum Y-axis values are retrieved from the limits set upon the object in the Object Properties form in the Definition module
  • Fixed Limits: You can manually define a set of Y-axis maximum and minimum values directly in the graph.
The Y-axis menu is opened by right-clicking a Y-axis in the graph.

Hidden/Highlighted signals as default

When a graph is opened, an operator can elect to highlight one or more signals as well as hide one or more signals in order simplify the graph and gain a better overview of the trend being presented in the chart.

You can set up the signal formatting in the graph to be hidden and/or highlighted by default, so the graph opens with these signal formats already selected.

In the Signals tab of the Graph Properties form, select the signal you want to define default formatting for and

  • Select the Highlighted check box to automatically highlight the selected signal when the graph is opened.
  • Select the Hidden check box to automatically hide the selected signal when the graph is opened.

If you want the graph to open with all other signals hidden or highlighted, you must define the formatting for each individual signal.

Any operator will still be able to remove highlights and display hidden signals as usual by selecting the highlight/remove highlight and hide/show/ hide all others options in the signal legend menu or in the graph menu.

Value Toolbar

If the value toolbar is displayed and the period in the graph includes the present time, the value toolbar will be automatically be placed at the present time on the Time axis and locked at that position – the far right of the axis. The value toolbar will thereafter be automatically updated every second to display the present signal values.


If the value toolbar is moved from the present time position on the Time axis, the values will no longer display the present signal values and of course instead display the historic signal values.

If the value toolbar is moved to the present time position on the Time axis, for example by using the Go to Now option in the X-axis menu, the automatic update of the value toolbar will resume.

The new and reinstated graph functionality is only available for IGSS 12 after you have updated your IGSS installation.
